About Me

I am a web designer and software developer who lives in both Melbourne and Hobart. I have experience both in Software Development and Web Design. I am currently also completing a Bachelor of Computing at Swinburne University of Technology and achieving high results.

Web Design

I have been creating websites for the past 5 years and have developed a keen sense of what works and what doesn't work on the web. I am passionate about creating websites that look great and are easy to use. I'm a firm believer that websites should meet basic usability principles to allow them to be used on a range of devices and by a range of people.

Software Development

I have worked on a number of software projects in a variety of languages. I have authored the code behind intelligent Learn to Swim software and am currently working on two business applications. I have experience working on both web-based and desktop applications. I also have experience in a number of languages - particularly VB/VB.NET/C# and PHP. I also have experience in C++, C and Java.

The IT Community

Keeping up with the latest trends and technologies is a passion of mine - and a necessity when it comes to IT. I am a subscriber to a range of well-regarded newsletters and e-zines. I also subscribe to PC Authority magazine which, in my opinion, is Australia's foremost technology magazine. I am also a member of a range of professional organisations including the Association for Computing Machinery, the Australian Computer Society and the Australian Web Industry Association.

I am an avid contributor to Wikipedia and Wikitravel. I enjoy writing new articles about Tasmania, IT, politics, science and society. I am also an editor on the Open Directory Project.

Other Interests

Of course, I'm not all about computers! I am also a qualified AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety, AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant Aquatics and have 5½ years experience in the aquatic industry as a lifeguard and swimming teacher. This interest has also extended to my development of the intelligent Learn to Swim software for swim schools.
